GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide-6) is a synthetic hexapeptide and one of the first generation growth hormone secretagogues developed. It binds to the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) to stimulate growth hormone release from the pituitary. GHRP-6 is notable for its potent appetite-stimulating effects, making it useful in research related to cachexia and wasting conditions. The peptide also has demonstrated cardioprotective properties in preclinical studies. GHRP-6 produces a strong GH pulse but is also associated with increased cortisol and prolactin release. It works synergistically with GHRH analogs to produce amplified growth hormone responses.
