IGF-1 DES (Des(1-3)IGF-1) is a truncated form of insulin-like growth factor-1 lacking the first three N-terminal amino acids (Gly-Pro-Glu). This modification significantly enhances potency because the tripeptide extension in full-length IGF-1 is responsible for binding to IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs). Without these amino acids, IGF-1 DES has greatly reduced IGFBP binding affinity, resulting in higher bioavailability and more potent biological activity. The peptide is approximately 10 times more potent than regular IGF-1 for stimulating muscle cell proliferation and differentiation. IGF-1 DES is particularly popular in research focused on localized muscle growth.
