Thymopoietin II Fragment (TP-1), also known as Thymopentin, is a synthetic pentapeptide representing the active site of the 49-amino acid protein thymopoietin. The sequence Arg-Lys-Asp-Val-Tyr corresponds to residues 32-36 of native thymopoietin and retains full biological activity. Thymopoietin was originally isolated from bovine thymus and plays a crucial role in T-lymphocyte differentiation and maturation. TP-1/Thymopentin has been used clinically as an immunomodulator for various conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis B, and immunodeficiency states. It enhances T-cell function without causing immunosuppression.
